This paper shows how Bus Rapid Transit has evolved from simple bus priority measures to an integrated approach for better service provision. We show how cost effective solutions have been continuously evolved to improve the level of service, including some emblematic breakthroughs in BRT evolution in cities like Curitiba, Bogota, Istanbul and Guangzhou. We also present new research and development activities that will continue to shape BRT evolution in the coming years.
