Traffic Safety on Bus Corridors
The choices made in the planning and design of a BRT or Busway corridor (e.g. counterflow lanes, speed management, location of pedestrian crossings) can have a great impact on the system’s safety performance. This webinar examines in detail the relative safety performance of typical BRT design features, using findings from crash frequency models and qualitative observations from road safety inspections. We illustrate our findings through several case studies, including Metrobus (Mexico City), Metrobus (Istanbul), and TransOeste (Rio de Janeiro) and we discuss the relationship between safety and operational performance.
